Portrait Session Guide

What to wear?

Unsure what you should wear for your upcoming portrait session? The easiest starting point when trying to figure out what to wear for your portrait session is to decide what kind of feel you are going for. If you are wanting a brighter look to your portraits with a light and airy feel, choose clothing that is neutral and light coloured, ie. cream, white, beige, gray, muted pinks, pastels and light blues. If you prefer a more dark and moody look, choose some moodier colours like navy, maroon, emerald green, dark grey or brown, but mix in some lighter colours to keep it from looking TOO dark.

Another idea would be to choose some pops of color, but keep the rest neutral. When deciding on your clothing for a couple/group/family session, it’s best to coordinate, but not match. Try to avoid things such as everyone wearing the same colour shirt or dress. A great way to stay co-ordinated, but not "matchy-matchy" is to choose a textured shirt in light blue, a grey shirt for another, a floral dress with grey, cream, pink and blue for another person, a pink lace dress for another, etc. Basically the goal is to coordinate, but not match. Change up textures and prints. More importantly, there are a few things to definitely avoid if you can. Thin, close together stripes and small plaid/chequered prints can also look a bit odd in photos. Large logos, cartoon characters, or words on your clothing should also be avoided where possible as these can all detract from the main subject of the photo, which is you and your family/friends.

Stay away from too many super dark colors, as they can make photos look dull. Also avoid neon colours, they may create colour casts on skin, no one really wants to look like a cheeto in their family photos! Choose well-fitting clothing and something that you feel confident in.  Stick to a certain style for everyone. If one person is going to wear casual, beachy clothing, everyone should.

How long will my session take?

Most portrait sessions take approximately an hour but can take up to 1 hour, depending on how many people are being photographed, the group dynamic and other external factors such as weather or the general public if your session is being held at a public location. If your session is a mini session, these are limited to 20 minutes each, regardless of how many people are being photographed for the session.

When will I receive my finished images?

Unless otherwise agreed within your Photography Services Agreement, there is up to a 2 week turnaround for your final images to be added to your online viewing gallery and a further 7 to 14 business days after you have chosen your images for printing.  Unless we have agreed on a faster turnaround due to special circumstances such as Christmas, Valentines or Mother’s Day specials please allow a minimum of 4 weeks to receive your printed products.

How many images will I receive?

The quantity of images you receive is dependant on the Product Package you choose.  The minimum quantity is 10 printed and digital images.  This is with the exception of Mini sessions which include 3 web quality quality digital files.  Further images may be available for purchase at a rate of $45 per digital file.

Can I pay in instalments?

Session Fees must be paid up front, however payment instalments for product packages may be arranged on a case by case basis with reasonable terms for both parties.  This must be requested at the time of ordering your product, however, products may not be provided until final payment has been received.
